Vanya’s Story

A Name With a Story

Not Ivan the Terrible — I’m far from terrible. More like Uncle Vanya. My name comes from a beloved Russian cartoon, Holidays in Prostokvashino. In it, a ship is called Ivan Fyodorovich Kruzenshtern — “a man and a steamship.” My humans thought I had that same presence, and so Vanya I became. To close friends, I’m Vanyusha.
Life on the Isle of Wight

The island has been called “a branch of paradise.” Long before humans, dinosaurs roamed here. Their fossils still appear when coastal cliffs collapse. We live 200 meters from the sea. Almost every morning, Master and I go for a walk — though between us, I think it’s me walking him.
The Garden and My Duties
Our garden has over 70 rose bushes, hydrangeas, begonias, tulips, and, most importantly, tomatoes and cucumbers. Every cucumber harvest, I get both ends. Marisha grows so many vegetables that she fills more than 70 jars a year. My job is quality control.

A Giant With a Gentle Heart
I may be 60 cm at the shoulder and weigh about 50 kg, but I’m gentle. I love watching over the garden, meeting other happy dogs by the sea, and telling my stories. This is just the beginning — there are many adventures ahead.
